MNÁ AN IRA
This documentary series will explore the involvement of women in active service with the provisional IRA in modern times. It will look at their personal stories and what impact their actions had on the conflict in the North of Ireland. This six part series will provide us with a perspective on the last 40 years through the eyes of its women protagonists. It will uncover stories that have either been forgotten or airbrushed out of the official history of the Troubles, revealing just how many women were
involved in terrorist action or freedom fighting activities, depending on one’s point of view.
Each programme will focus on one woman in particular and will be a journey that we take back into her past to discover what it was that drove her into taking direct and violent action. Alongside this, the series will also feature archive material and contributions from other observers who will put the social history and politics of the time into a context for the viewers.
