‘John Ford – Dreaming the Quiet Man’
John Ford: Dreaming The Quiet Man is a revealing documentary that explores the making of the Oscar-winning film which took John Ford twenty years to bring to the big screen. Featuring heartfelt discussions with Maureen O’Hara, Martin Scorsese, Peter Bogdanovich and Jim Sheridan, along with accounts from local people, who still remember how Hollywood came to the West of Ireland and changed their lives forever. With mesmeric archive footage and rare photographs, the documentary takes us too Ford’s ancestral homeland of Connemara, where his parents were born. We meet Ford’s cousins, The Feeney’s, who tell the story of how Ford’s parent’s departed from Ireland to America, after the Great Famine and how the young Ford returned to Ireland in 1922, to visit his cousins and how he witnessed their house being burned down by the infamous Black and Tans. The film, which is narrated by Hollywood actor Gabriel Byrne, also takes us to Portland Maine where Ford grew up and went on to become one of the greatest Hollywood Directors of all time.
